SUMMERY OF COSTS

CREATING A WEBSITE COSTS

The answer may vary. The cost of a website is not just determined by its appearance, but also by its functionality as part of a larger system.

If you require your website to have more functionality beyond just aesthetic appeal, such as a personalized online quiz feature or integration with an API system for booking management, these factors will impact the overall cost of your website design.

MONTHLY COSTS

Hosting – To make your website available online, it must be hosted on a server. The cost of hosting can vary from £10 to £200 per month.

SEO – After creating a website, the next step is to promote it, and this is where SEO becomes crucial. If you want your site to appear high in search engine results or utilise social media effectively through platforms like Facebook or LinkedIn ads, then implementing an SEO campaign is essential.

Newsletters – Although Mailchimp is free to use to a certain extent, it does require a monthly subscription for continued use.

Plugins – Certain advanced plugins, like the ones available on Shopify, may require a monthly payment.

Care Packages – If you need assistance with technical issues or regular updates for your website, make sure to include this in your plans.

Social Media – Managing and updating your social media accounts and integrating them with your website may require someone to dedicate a significant amount of time to it.

Licences– Certain resources, like fonts and stock photos/videos, may necessitate licenses that come with a recurring monthly fee. However, utilizing a platform like Pixelo can potentially save you from these ongoing expenses for website assets such as fonts.

YEARLY COSTS

Domain – To create a website, you will require a domain that comes with an annual charge. A domain is typically registered for a minimum of one year and can cost between £5-£20. Alternatively, you can opt to purchase a premium domain from its current owner, which may come at a significantly higher cost depending on the specific domain.

SSL CertificateTo ensure that your website is displayed as https, it is necessary to have an SSL Certificate. This is now mandatory for all websites, as Google will not give a good ranking to sites without one and users may receive security warnings. To enable this, at least a domain validation SSL Certificate is required.

GENERAL COSTS

Image Licences – It is not feasible to simply take images from any source online. If you do not have your own photographs, you must buy stock images and obtain a license to use them. The cost of a stock image can range from £1 to £250, depending on the image and its source. As part of our website creation services, we provide 20 customised artwork images tailored to your specifications and needs.

CopywritingWhen creating a website, it is important to take into account the amount of content that will be needed. If you are not skilled with words or do not have much free time, we strongly suggest utilising our copy writing service.

Plug in LicencesAt times, instead of programming specific features into a website, it may be more efficient and convenient to utilise a plugin. These can consist of elements such as image sliders, booking systems, and payment processing.

Payment Processing FeesIf you operate an online store, you must take into account payment processing charges. For instance, if you use PayPal as your payment method, they will deduct 3% from all transactions made through your account. So, if a customer buys an item for £100, you will ultimately receive £97.

DOMAIN NAMES

The cost of a domain name can vary from £5 to £30 per year per domain. The price depends on your specific needs, and you can choose between a location-based domain like .co.uk or a top-level .com, which is not specific to any area and may be slightly more expensive.

It is possible to register a domain for a period of 1 year, however, we highly recommend registering for a minimum of 2-3 years or even longer if feasible. Opting for a longer registration period, such as 4-5 years, can have a positive impact on SEO as it signals to Google that the domain will remain active for an extended period.

One option is to buy a premium domain from companies or individuals who have already bought them. These domains typically cost more than £100. After purchasing a premium domain, you will only need to pay a renewal fee, which is a small percentage of the initial price.

When you buy your domain, be cautious of businesses attempting to sell you unnecessary add-ons like domain name protection or whois privacy.

In essence, simplicity is key. Unless you are buying a premium domain, your yearly cost should be relatively inexpensive.
